Love Note #3 - The Mountain We Didn't Expect To Climb

Inspiring quotes and simple actions for everyday wellness.

A Gentle Reminder

I passionately believe that it is critical to maintain health to not only prevent issues but also to build strength and resilience to face any challenges if they do arise.

Today's Quote

“You have been assigned this mountain to show others it can be moved.”

- Author Unknown

Why This Matters

My husband and I have made health a priority since the day we met – 31 years ago.  We have always been active.  Right out of college we joined a Masters swim team, competed in sprint triathlons, and spent countless hours at the gym.  I taught fitness classes (most of which he attended) for nearly 15 years, and to this day we both love learning about nutrition, common health concerns, and the latest research.

But nine months ago, our lives shifted.  My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  It was a whirlwind of appointments, decisions, and fear.  Thankfully, the cancer was caught early, his prostate was removed, and his margins and lymph nodes were clear.  Just three months after surgery, he was able to say his cancer is behind him and he can move forward as a survivor.

Looking back, I see how all the years he invested in his health gave him the strength, resilience, and grit to face that diagnosis and recovery.  Because of this mountain we climbed, we now encourage every man in our life to get their PSA tested.  This isn’t medical advice—just a reminder of the power of awareness, advocacy, and having open conversations with one’s healthcare provider.  We can support other cancer patients more authentically, and we can offer genuine hope to those navigating a diagnosis.  We conquered that mountain together, and we look forward to helping others do the same.

Actions You Can Take Today

  • Share your journey with others.  Your journey matters and your challenge has purpose.  When you open up about your journey, you create space to encourage and inspire others.

  • Lean on your team.  Invite a friend, family member, or coach to walk alongside you.  Mountains are easier to climb when you’re not alone.

  • Celebrate each step.  Acknowledge your healthy choices.  Reward yourself with a small celebration or note of gratitude.

  • Break it into steps.  Choose one small action to take today.  Moving even one stone at a time still shifts the mountain.

Final Thoughts

Your mountain was placed in your path for a reason.  Face it with courage, climb it with determination, and let your journey light the way for others.
