A Gentle Reminder
When we want to make a change sometimes just taking the first step is the hardest part. Stepping into something new can feel scary. However, the sooner we jump, the longer we can reap the benefits of that change.
Today's Quote
“One day or day one. You decide.”
- often attributed to Paulo Coelho
Why This Matters
My daughter’s first jobs were all in food service. She started as a host and worked her way up to server in casual dining establishments. After working as a server for several years, she announced to my husband and me that she wanted to work in a fine dining restaurant - and she knew exactly which one.

The next day she walked into that restaurant unannounced and asked to speak with the manager. The manager wasn’t there, so she spoke with several staff members to gain insight and left her resume. She was told they were not hiring. The next day, she went back and spoke with the manager. On the third day, she went for an interview with the assistant manager and then the manager. She was hired on the spot!
She realized her goal only because she viewed her announcement to us as day one, not one day. She dove in with everything she had and made it happen. That’s not to say she wasn’t scared or nervous or intimidated. She was all those things and more, but her day one approach opened the door to great opportunity.
Actions You Can Take Today
What can you do right now? Open your calendar and schedule a healthy action within the next 24 hours.
Start small...but start! Take a 5-minute walk, journal for 5 minutes, or go to bed just 5 minutes earlier tonight.
Remove a barrier. Layout workout clothes for the next morning, prep a grocery list, or set a reminder.
Final Thoughts
Change doesn’t begin when fear disappears, it begins when we decide to move forward anyway. You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need to take one intentional action and call it day one. Momentum will build from there.
